How does M-Files compare?
Choosing a document management system starts with an honest comparison. Here we put M-Files next to the options you are probably considering, including what the other option does well.

In short
SoftAdvice compares M-Files with the options organisations usually weigh: SharePoint and Microsoft 365, spreadsheets and shared drives, and separate tools for contracts or quality. Each comparison says when the other option is enough, when M-Files adds value, and how they can work together. M-Files organises documents by metadata, links them to customers, projects and contracts, and controls versions, approvals and access.

Questions about choosing a system
Is M-Files a replacement for SharePoint?
Usually not. SharePoint stays for collaboration and the intranet; M-Files manages the documents that must be controlled, and M-Files Cloud stores them in your own Microsoft 365 tenant.
When is M-Files not the right choice?
When you mainly need shared working documents and an intranet, with few rules about versions, approvals or access. Then SharePoint or a shared drive is often enough.
Can you help us compare for our own situation?
Yes. In a 30-minute call we look at your documents and processes and tell you which option fits, also when that is not M-Files.
