In short
Since July 2025, M-Files stores content natively in Microsoft 365 through SharePoint Embedded, the first document management system to do so. Since 16 March 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot, the Copilot Agent Builder and Microsoft 365 Search work directly with M-Files content, with M-Files permissions and governance respected. SharePoint stays your collaboration platform; M-Files adds metadata, workflows, version control and compliance. SoftAdvice implements it in the BeNeLux.

Native storage in Microsoft 365
M-Files becomes the first document management system to store content natively in Microsoft 365, through SharePoint Embedded. Co-authoring in Word, Excel and PowerPoint works on documents stored in M-Files.

M-Files documents appear in the search bar of Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. One search for SharePoint, OneDrive and M-Files. Included in your M-Files Cloud subscription.
Co-authoring in Office

Purview retention, classification and protection policies apply to your M-Files documents, and sensitivity labels are managed organisation-wide.

Does M-Files replace SharePoint?
No. SharePoint stays your platform for collaboration and intranet. M-Files adds structured document management on top: metadata, workflows, version control and compliance, stored natively in Microsoft 365 through SharePoint Embedded.
Is the Copilot integration available for every M-Files customer?
It is rolled out gradually since 16 March 2026 to M-Files Cloud customers. We check the status of your environment during the demo.
Do we need an extra licence?
The Copilot features require an active Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. Microsoft 365 Search is included in your M-Files Cloud subscription.
Do M-Files permissions stay intact in Copilot?
Yes. Copilot and Search only show content the user is already allowed to see in M-Files, whatever the question.
