What is dox42 and how does it differ from regular Word templates?
dox42 is a document generation platform that fills templates automatically with live data from source systems such as M-Files. Regular Word templates are static: someone has to fill in the data by hand. dox42 does it automatically, based on the metadata already in M-Files.
Do I need to rebuild my existing Word templates from scratch?
No. dox42 works with standard Word and Excel files. You add field tags where data should appear. The rest of your template, its formatting, house style and structure, stays unchanged.
Which data from M-Files can dox42 use?
All metadata linked to an object in M-Files: client name, address, reference numbers, dates, amounts, statuses, linked contacts and more. Relationships between objects can also be retrieved, such as the client linked to a file.
Does the integration support PDF output?
Yes. dox42 generates documents as Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and PDF. You choose the output format per template; for contracts and reports, PDF is the usual choice.
Can the integration be linked to an M-Files workflow?
Yes. Document generation can be triggered from a workflow step in M-Files, so a document is generated automatically when a file reaches a certain status, without any user action.
Can dox42 work together with Penneo for e-signatures?
Yes. dox42 generates the contract from M-Files, the document is then sent to Penneo for electronic signing, and the signed document returns to M-Files.
